    Beauty Bag Essentials: Foundation

MissyOnMadison LaRochePosay PoreReducer BenefitMakeup Makeup Porefessional FoundationBrushes Dermablend DermablendFoundation beauty beautyblog cosmetics ulta ultacosmeticsHappy Tuesday Loves! Figured I’d share where the start of my outfit shoots begin…with my foundation! I have searched high and low for the perfect beauty products that A) Give me proper coverage B) Hide my pores and redness C) Match my skin tone, with a slight hint of tan (what can I say I am slightly obsessed with having color year round).

Finally after years of searching…I have found my ‘must haves’ I simply can’t be without:

    1) Benefit Cosmetics Porefessional: This baby is a miracle worker! Reduces redness, hides my pores and evens out my skin tone.

    2) La Roche Posay Effaclar Mat: I use this twice while doing my makeup routine. First I do a thin layer as my regular moisturizer (it reduces shine and is a pore reducer) and then I use it again to mix with my foundation for a smooth finished look.

    3) Dermablend Smooth Indulgence Foundation: BEST foundation hands down. Goes on smooth, gives amazing coverage and looks practically air brushed. It comes in a variety of hues and all of them have a little tint of bronze for a tan and glowing finish.

    4) Japonesque Concealer Brush: This brush is great to get coverage in all those hard to get spots…under your eyes, around your nose etc.

    5) Elf Stipple Brush: I LOVE this brush and can’t believe it only cost me $3 at Target. It is the best foundation brush for liquid or cream foundation.

    Long Hair Don’t Care…

missyonmadison beauty hair brunette haircurling diy beautytips beautyguide hottools longhairdontcare dryshampoo hairspray photography fashionblog blog blogger beautybloggerHappy Thursday Loves! I decided to share with you one of my quick and easy tips to have ‘blogger’ ready for hair for outfit shoots, parties and just because…no blog required I suppose 😉

I always feel most confident when I have my ‘Victoria’s Secret’ style hair as I like to call it which in my mind simply means: loose, beautiful curls that look like a million bucks without seeming like a high maintenance hair style. It took me years to perfect the picture perfect hair that I would complain to every hair dresser I wanted, but by darn I’ve got it…only took working at a hair salon for 3 years (as a receptionist) to figure out how to properly curl my hair (guess I’m a slow learner…oops)! I am totally admitting I am far from a beauty guru and I turn to other bloggers for advice all the time, but I think now I can confidently say I found the secret to the ‘sexy hair’ style that is loose curls.missyonmadison beauty hair brunette haircurling diy beautytips beautyguide hottools longhairdontcare dryshampoo hairspray photography fashionblog blog blogger beautybloggerSo let’s start with what products I use:

    1) Hot Tools 1″ Curling Iron

    2) Tresemme Fresh Start Dry Shampoo

    3) Moroccanoil Finishing Spray

I swear by these products…first off I’ve had my Hot Tools Curling Iron for years and for $30 (I bought it on sale of course) it provides amazing results and is great quality…most hair styling tools end up not working after a lot of use, but this baby has yet to fail me. I got the 1 inch iron based on my hair length, I have long hair that is thin…consult the Hot Tools website or your hair stylist about which iron is right for your kind of hair! My dry shampoo is my savior. The Tresemme Fresh Start Dry Shampoo really gives you the bang for your buck. It usually retails at around $5, smells great and soaks up all the oil in your hair while also adding a little volume, texture and a great scent. Last but not least, in order to make my fabulous curls last me all day, I opt for Moroccanoil Finishing Spray. It’s light weight, flexible and smells delicious…I even spray it on days I let my hair dry naturally just for the fabulous scent. missyonmadison beauty hair brunette haircurling diy beautytips beautyguide hottools longhairdontcare dryshampoo hairspray photography fashionblog blog blogger beautybloggerNow I curl my hair the way I’ve been taught from my hair stylist friends…lesson one, dirty hair holds curls better than freshly washed hair. This may sound a little funky to you, especially if you are used to washing your hair every day, but I have a secret for you ladies…washing your hair every day actually causes it to produce more oil! Give your hair a day or two to breath (when I curl my hair it lasts me 2-3 days and I simply spruce it up with dry shampoo in the morning and touch up my curls). This varies obviously depending on the person, but for the most part rule of thumb…wash your hair and let it dry naturally the night before, day before or a few hours before you plan on curling it.

My steps below are based upon my hair being washed and naturally dried the day before!

    1) Spray Dry Shampoo a few inches away from the roots and if need be section off pieces to make sure you spray where you tend to get the most oily.  missyonmadison beauty hair brunette haircurling diy beautytips beautyguide hottools longhairdontcare dryshampoo hairspray photography fashionblog blog blogger beautyblogger2) Take about a 1 inch section of hair and clamp the piece around the barrel of the curling iron starting in the MIDDLE! Very important ladies, if you clamp it too close to the top or the bottom, the hair doesn’t curl or it doesn’t hold. missyonmadison beauty hair brunette haircurling diy beautytips beautyguide hottools longhairdontcare dryshampoo hairspray photography fashionblog blog blogger beautyblogger3) Begin turning the curling iron slowly gripping more of the hair as you rotate the iron up towards your root. missyonmadison beauty hair brunette haircurling diy beautytips beautyguide hottools longhairdontcare dryshampoo hairspray photography fashionblog blog blogger beautyblogger4) Hold the piece for about 10-15 seconds…missyonmadison beauty hair brunette haircurling diy beautytips beautyguide hottools longhairdontcare dryshampoo hairspray photography fashionblog blog blogger beautyblogger5) Slowly loosen up your grip on the iron to allow the piece to fall naturally.missyonmadison beauty hair brunette haircurling diy beautytips beautyguide hottools longhairdontcare dryshampoo hairspray photography fashionblog blog blogger beautyblogger6) Spray some finish spray or hair spray for extra hold…missyonmadison beauty hair brunette haircurling diy beautytips beautyguide hottools longhairdontcare dryshampoo hairspray photography fashionblog blog blogger beautybloggerAnd voila! Picture perfect hair in a few minutes flat!

Typically it takes me about 15-20 minutes to curl my whole head depending on how tight I want the curls or how finished I want it to look.missyonmadison beauty beautyblog hair hairstyle hairtips curlinghair longhairdontcare curledhair brunette beauty beautiful photography whitebathrobeHope my tips help you!
