Why We Postponed Our Disney Wedding…

Demetrios Gown via Mon Amie Bridal

Wedding Bells Are Ringing (or at least they will in 2022 for us)  👰🏼

It took me a while to finally sit and write this post as every time I start thinking about my dream wedding, I get a little emotional. ICYMI – we got engaged in February 2020 right before COVID hit the US and while our engagement and proposal was something out of a fairytale…the events that followed were anything but. We had such a magical time at Disney Aulani getting engaged on the beach and right away we knew we wanted to plan our dream Disney Wedding at Walt Disney World in Orlando, FL.

Then we get home…we begin the wedding planning process and we begin chatting with our Disney Wedding consultant to plan our fairytale nuptials. While we were planning we were continuing to be optimistic hoping that ’14 days to slow the spread’ would be long forgotten by the time our May 2021 wedding rolled around but as weeks turned into months it became obvious that COVID wasn’t going anywhere and like many couples it was time to make a decision…do we postpone or do we continue on.

The brings us to our decision…after carefully reviewing CDC guidelines and Walt Disney World guidelines we decided 2021 wasn’t our time to get married and instead made the tough decision to postpone till May 2022…so here’s some factors that contributed to our decision and some of our feelings…I figured this would be a cathartic exercise to express the sadness and frustration I (as well as so many other people have been feeling).

    General Concerns

Before I dive into the Disney COVID guidelines which was a big factor in our decision to postpone our wedding it’s first important to note the overall feelings Mike and I had regarding continuing on with the wedding as planned.

A big factor was that fully plan on having a big wedding with family members that vary in age and vary with health concerns…the last thing we want is for anyone to get sick at our wedding or feel a sense of obligation to attend even if they don’t feel comfortable being around crowds of people or traveling etc…we want everyone to feel happy and carefree, we don’t want a pandemic and nervous feelings clouding our day and everyone’s experience. Since our families are from the East Coast, everyone would pretty much need to board a plane or drive to Orlando for the wedding so we felt with the uncertainty in the world around COVID it still was too early to ask people to travel and leave the safety of their home for us, it felt selfish and not right.

Another huge factor for us was cost…COVID has caused financial impacts on a lot of people, and out of concern for our guests we knew asking people to pay to travel and stay at a hotel while we still await the jobs market to recuperate wasn’t the right thing to do.

Now to get to Disney Wedding Guidelines…which also greatly impacted our decision to postpone…

I want to note we fully understand these guidelines are for overall guest safety and health, I think it’s great Disney Wedding’s are trying to find a way to still allow couples to have their Happily Ever After and plenty of couples are continuing to have their wedding at WDW with these guidelines…we just felt it wasn’t a fit for us and wanted to hold out for normalcy.

    Mask Requirement

Currently everyone attending and participating in a Disney Wedding must wear a mask at all times except as the bride and groom walk dow the aisle and exchange vows…other than that masks are required for guests, photos, in between reception and cocktail hour etc. Personally if I am spending a ton of hair, makeup, my dream venue etc I want to have no aspect of COVID in my wedding memories, especially a mask, and since we both agreed this was not a memory we wanted in our photos, videos etc we knew we wanted to postpone until masks are fully gone and the world is back to normal (or as normal as we can hope).

    Guest Count

Mike has a large family and we anticipate 100-150 guests, right now Disney for our venue was limiting guest count to 25 which simply wouldn’t work for us so that was a big factor as well. We are hoping once things become normal, the regular guest counts can resume.

    No Characters

One of my favorite parts about Disney and once of the aspects I am most excited about for my Disney Wedding is having Mickey + Minnie at our reception! Unfortunately for overall health + safety guidelines character experiences are not available at your wedding as they don’t want guests hugging or touching the characters.

    So What’s Next?

So here we are…we had sent out our Save The Dates, we had begun planning our big day, my dress is sitting in a warehouse waiting for me to walk down the aisle in it and we are sitting waiting for the world to go back to normal. Disney Weddings only allows you to book exactly one year from the date you want so unfortunately to book for May 2022 we need to wait till May 2021…sad to think our wedding would of been this year but we have to wait another year and a half…but I don’t think anyone could have predicted the world being this upside down and uncertain for this long…we sure didn’t, we waited till December to make the decision to postpone as we kept holding out hope.

We feel sad but are optimistic things will brighten up soon. We just bought our first home so we will take this time we would’ve been wedding planning to instead renovate, design + make our house a home! We know there’s a lot going on in the world and our wedding being moved isn’t the most tragic thing to happen but we can’t help but feel a bit sad and helpless because we still don’t know what the future holds or when or if life will ever return to normal…praying for some magic + pixie dust in the future and our love goes out to brides and grooms to be encountering the same struggle as us…lots of tough decisions with what should be a happy time.

Finding My Dream Dress With Demetrios Bridal…

    ♥ FOUND THE DRESS ♥

Disney Wedding planning is underway and with all of the uncertainty currently happening in the world one of the parts of wedding planning I was most looking forward to was finding my dream dress! I am beyond excited to share that Demetrios Bridal reached out to me to help me find my dream gown and let me tell you they didn’t disappoint! Prior to my appointment Demetrios Bridal let me know they were doing a Trunk Show at one of their stockists, Mon Amie Bridal in Costa Mesa, CA so I decided now was the time to try on some gorgeous dresses and find the ‘ONE‘!

Prior to my appointment I sent over some of my favorite styles from the Demetrios Bridal website over to the team to assure they had those top picks of mine at Mon Amie Bridal. Since I am having a Disney Wedding at Walt Disney World I knew I wanted a princess style dress…a ball gown with tulle and some embroidery and sparkle…something that felt like Cinderella so I was beyond excited when I got to Mon Amie Bridal with my bridesmaids in tow to begin trying on some gorgeous gowns!

The team at Mon Amie Bridal was beyond sweet + helpful, they had dresses perfect for a Disney Wedding from Demetrios already pulled and they all were flawless so it was quite a tough decision. Here’s a look at some of my favorites I tried on that made me feel like an angel!

The dresses were all so beautiful and it was a surreal moment to actually step into some of these gorgeous gowns. I definitely shed some tears + got pretty emotional. My maid of honor facetimed with my dad in NY so he could give his opinion and it was fun to get a guy’s perspective haha But he cried and we experienced all sorts of emotions thinking about me walking down the aisle.

What I love about Demetrios Bridal is that their gowns feel so unique, special + feminine which is exactly what I was looking for…something dreamy, magical + one of a kind. Demetrios can even customize the dress to my liking which I am so excited about because I am going to add some pretty sleeve detailing to the style I chose (which you will have to see when I walk down the aisle).

The entire Demetrios Bridal collection is impeccable…whether you are looking for a ball gown or an A-line or a mermaid style etc. They create gorgeous dresses for every type of bride which is what made me feel so at ease when picking and choosing different styles.

It was so fun to also add a veil and bouquet when trying on the gowns…it really helped me envision what I would look like on my big day. I am still deciding on my veil but I did pick my dress that day after trying on a variety of styles…it was a tough decision but I went with a gorgeous ball gown which I can’t wait to share with you all!

A big thank you to Demetrios Bridal for helping me find my dream dress and Mon Amie Bridal Salon for the amazing experience for my dress try on! All photography shot by Vanessa Hicks Photography.

    Designing Our Save The Dates…

✨ Happily Ever Save The Date ✨

Slowly but surely the Disney Wedding planning is underway! While there is a lot of uncertainty of what is ahead due to COVID we are moving forward with planning for May 2021 + hoping for the best (we are open to the possibility of postponing depending on the stipulations in place etc for overall safety + the health of our guests). So that means step one after securing our date was designing our Save The Dates which of course had to be Disney themed!missyonmadison, missyonmadison blog, disney wedding, disney bride, disney bride to be, disney world wedding, disney fairytale weddings, save the dates, disney save the dates, disney world wedding save the dates, mickey mouse envelope seals, mickey shaped save the dates, ring box, ring boxes, bride to be 2021, engaged 2020, epcot wedding, wedding pavillion wedding,

We worked with Themes Come True, the only paper goods company that has the official Disney license to create whatever you dream of! They are so fun to work with and have so many Disney Weddings under their belt to showcase examples from and everything you create is truly your own. That is one of the things I love the most. Our Save The Dates are unique to us and each detail was curating by us and not something easily copy and pasted from someone else’s design making it that much more special.

missyonmadison, missyonmadison blog, disney wedding, disney bride, disney bride to be, disney world wedding, disney fairytale weddings, save the dates, disney save the dates, disney world wedding save the dates, mickey mouse envelope seals, mickey shaped save the dates, ring box, ring boxes, bride to be 2021, engaged 2020, epcot wedding, wedding pavillion wedding, missyonmadison, missyonmadison blog, disney wedding, disney bride, disney bride to be, disney world wedding, disney fairytale weddings, save the dates, disney save the dates, disney world wedding save the dates, mickey mouse envelope seals, mickey shaped save the dates, ring box, ring boxes, bride to be 2021, engaged 2020, epcot wedding, wedding pavillion wedding,

The first step of the process was reviewing examples of ones they have created in the past to gather inspo from. Right away I knew I HAD to have the Save The Dates be Mickey Mouse shaped. After knowing I definitely wanted a Mickey shaped Save The Date we then had to decide on color schemes. So I knew I wanted to have a glitter border and then a shimmer paper to better see the text and artwork for the actual Save The Date.

We looked at a few variations of colors and then eded up with a white ivory paper and gold glitter border! We also decided to to add a magnet to the back to make it convenient and easy to keep on hand leading up to the wedding. missyonmadison, missyonmadison blog, disney wedding, disney bride, disney bride to be, disney world wedding, disney fairytale weddings, save the dates, disney save the dates, disney world wedding save the dates, mickey mouse envelope seals, mickey shaped save the dates, ring box, ring boxes, bride to be 2021, engaged 2020, epcot wedding, wedding pavillion wedding, missyonmadison, missyonmadison blog, disney wedding, disney bride, disney bride to be, disney world wedding, disney fairytale weddings, save the dates, disney save the dates, disney world wedding save the dates, mickey mouse envelope seals, mickey shaped save the dates, ring box, ring boxes, bride to be 2021, engaged 2020, epcot wedding, wedding pavillion wedding, missyonmadison, missyonmadison blog, disney wedding, disney bride, disney bride to be, disney world wedding, disney fairytale weddings, save the dates, disney save the dates, disney world wedding save the dates, mickey mouse envelope seals, mickey shaped save the dates, ring box, ring boxes, bride to be 2021, engaged 2020, epcot wedding, wedding pavillion wedding,

Here’s some examples of if we just did on straight glitter which I found a little hard to read. That’s how we decided on glitter border and shimmer paper. After deciding on colors we then worked on the copy for the Save The Dates and I also knew I wanted to have a pretty Disney illustration as well.

Since Themes Come True is able to use Disney artwork etc I was able to look at some of their most popular illustrations for us to add to our Save The Dates.missyonmadison, missyonmadison blog, disney wedding, disney bride, disney bride to be, disney world wedding, disney fairytale weddings, save the dates, disney save the dates, disney world wedding save the dates, mickey mouse envelope seals, mickey shaped save the dates, ring box, ring boxes, bride to be 2021, engaged 2020, epcot wedding, wedding pavillion wedding,

We chose the Mickey and Minnie illustration with Mickey and Minnie holding each other on the bottom row and I wanted it to look like they were viewing a fireworks show so we added accents of fireworks on the shimmer paper as well. missyonmadison, missyonmadison blog, disney wedding, disney bride, disney bride to be, disney world wedding, disney fairytale weddings, save the dates, disney save the dates, disney world wedding save the dates, mickey mouse envelope seals, mickey shaped save the dates, ring box, ring boxes, bride to be 2021, engaged 2020, epcot wedding, wedding pavillion wedding,

After designing the actual Save The Date it was time to design the envelopes! There was inspo we pulled from and one of the things I totally fell in love with instantly was the Mickey glitter seals. I knew our guests would love getting a little Disney magic in the mail and that the glitter Mickey on the back would let you right away know who the Save The Date was from and what was inside! missyonmadison, missyonmadison blog, disney wedding, disney bride, disney bride to be, disney world wedding, disney fairytale weddings, save the dates, disney save the dates, disney world wedding save the dates, mickey mouse envelope seals, mickey shaped save the dates, ring box, ring boxes, bride to be 2021, engaged 2020, epcot wedding, wedding pavillion wedding, missyonmadison, missyonmadison blog, disney wedding, disney bride, disney bride to be, disney world wedding, disney fairytale weddings, save the dates, disney save the dates, disney world wedding save the dates, mickey mouse envelope seals, mickey shaped save the dates, ring box, ring boxes, bride to be 2021, engaged 2020, epcot wedding, wedding pavillion wedding,

I loved the design of these envelopes which are both ivory shimmer envelopes with Mickey Seals. We went with a white envelope just to lower some costs but we did a custom Disney stamp with the Mickey and Minnie looking at the fireworks artwork! How cool is that, you can get custom postage that is Disney themed?! missyonmadison, missyonmadison blog, disney wedding, disney bride, disney bride to be, disney world wedding, disney fairytale weddings, save the dates, disney save the dates, disney world wedding save the dates, mickey mouse envelope seals, mickey shaped save the dates, ring box, ring boxes, bride to be 2021, engaged 2020, epcot wedding, wedding pavillion wedding,

💍 Let the MAGIC begin 💍

I never thought this moment would come but guys I am planning my very own Disney Fairytale Wedding! Pinch me because I truly feel like I’m dreaming, I always tear up when watching Disney Fairytale Weddings on Disney+ and to think I will be just like one of those brides in a little under a year is beyond exciting!

ICYMI – we got engaged in February at Disney Aulani (proposal story HERE) + from the moment we got engaged we knew we wanted to get married at Disney World since it’s a close location for both of our families on the East Coast, PLUS it only makes sense given my LOVE of Disney (as if that weren’t yet obvious hehe :p). I want to share the entire Wedding Planning journey with ya’ll so here is blog post 1 (of many to come sharing initial steps in planning our Disney Wedding!)missyonmadison, disney wedding, disney wedding disney world, walt disney world wedding, disney fairytale weddings, disney wedding planning tips, planning a disney wedding, disney world wedding, disney bride, disney bride to be, disney proposal, disney wedding 2021, tips for planning your dream wedding, planning a destination wedding, disney destination wedding,

So I was lucky in terms of knowing right away we wanted to have a Disney Wedding + it just so happened a few weeks after getting engaged Disney World was holding it’s Disney Fairytale Weddings Showcase where they share information with brides to be about planning a Disney Wedding, samples of cakes, tablescapes, food, floral + so much more so my future mother-in-law & I attended the showcase at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa!

We got to meet vendors, check out tons of Disney Wedding merchandise, see various wedding ceremony locations throughout the resort and meet one on one with Disney Wedding Planners to help make your vision come to life!

After attending the showcase we got a clear idea of the locations you can have your Disney Wedding, minimum requirements, budget, add ons + more so here’s some exciting things I learned at the Disney Wedding Showcase that are also helping me step by step when planning my wedding ♥

Before getting to the steps of planning I highly suggest your initial step if you want to have a Disney Wedding is reach out to the Disney Weddings team on their website. From there you can choose where you are interested in having your Disney Wedding whether it be Disneyland in California, Disney World in Orlando, Disney Aulani in Hawaii etc. http://www.disneyweddings.com/

The Disney Weddings team will then connect you with the right location and designate consultants to assist you in the beginning stages of inquiring about planning your Disney Wedding. Luckily I got to meet my consultant while I was at the Disney Wedding Showcase and that consultant brought us for some site visits at Disney World etc which helped a lot in the planning process. Once you brainstorm ideas and concepts with your Disney Wedding Consultant, the real planning begins…

Step One – Plan Your Budget + Your Guest Count

Mike + I decided on a budget for the wedding early on along with estimated guest count, that comes in handy when beginning to brainstorm locations for your ceremony + your reception. The Disney Weddings team is awesome with working within your budget and you can have a Disney Wedding at various price points mainly dependent on guest count, time of year, day of the week, type of entertainment you want etc.

We plan on having around 85-100 people total and based on that and certain venues I wanted we were able to lock in our date and location options!missyonmadison, disney wedding, disney wedding disney world, walt disney world wedding, disney fairytale weddings, disney wedding planning tips, planning a disney wedding, disney world wedding, disney bride, disney bride to be, disney proposal, disney wedding 2021, tips for planning your dream wedding, planning a destination wedding, disney destination wedding, missyonmadison, disney wedding, disney wedding disney world, walt disney world wedding, disney fairytale weddings, disney wedding planning tips, planning a disney wedding, disney world wedding, disney bride, disney bride to be, disney proposal, disney wedding 2021, tips for planning your dream wedding, planning a destination wedding, disney destination wedding,

Step Two – Pick Your Venues

After coming up with your budget and guest count you can then decide your venues for your Ceremony, your pre-cocktail reception + your dinner + dancing reception. Different Disney Wedding locations have different requirements whether it be minimum guest count or type of dinner service available (plated vs buffet) etc.

We decided on our venues based on a few factors: Guest Count, Wanting our guests to be able to see fireworks and wanting a light and airy aesthetic for our dinner and dancing, so here’s our venues we decided on:
