    Casual Meets Sparkle

    20140108-123133.jpg
Leave it up to me to dress up an otherwise ordinary outfit with some brightly colored accessories to make a statement. There is something I love about adding a little glitz and glam to a casual outfit that calls for some glances. This outfit is one of those looks!

I scored this gray H&M sweater for $10…on clearance right before Christmas…yes people a $10 oversized sweater is pretty much a little slice of heaven to me! Naturally oversized sweaters look great with simple leggings like I’m wearing, but I have this thing for adding a little extra something weather it be a blazer, cardigan or in this case a denim vest.

Typically winter is a time for quilted puffer vests or faux fur vests (which if you’ve seen previous posts you know I certainly wear a lot of), but why not break the mold and go for denim…yes the whole point of a vest is a little extra warmth, but with an already warm and cozy sweater I think it’s just fine to go for a fashionable look and rock a little denim in the winter! It’s always a smart idea to think and dress outside the box!

As with every look, it’s all about the accessories. These Old Navy booties have lasted me 2 years of harsh weather conditions and are still as fabulous as the day I bought them. The color goes with practically everything and they are super comfortable! To add to the casual, laid back look, I went for a mini satchel cross-body bag from Rebecca Minkoff. The rose gold color adds a little extra glam to any outfit and it has enough room to fit all the essentials and lays perfectly.

Last but not least, my favorite part of this look…this H&M stunning necklace. I got this on clearance back in the spring and every time I wear it I cause a stir! It’s huge, sparkly and simply amazing! Adding a statement necklace to any ensemble adds a little extra ‘oomph’ that every fashionista desires!

    Let It Snow

    20140104-123634.jpg
In case you aren’t from the tri-state area, a quite powerful snowstorm passed through NYC and Long Island leaving in it’s path a ton of snow. Naturally what’s a girl to do with at least 8 inches of snow on the ground? Well take photos in it of course!  So while I had a snow day Friday from work, I headed out into the snow in my favorite all black winter get up.

Just because it’s freezing and snowy outside doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice your fashion sense! My perfect outfit to battle the snow and cold? My snake print Stuart Weitzman boots, a cozy Via Spiga coat, an oversized sweater and comfy Hue leggings. To tie the whole look together? A pair of great sunnies of course because hey…it may be snowing but that doesn’t mean the sun isn’t shining!

I found these Stuart Weitzman boots on clearance at Saks Off Fifth over a year ago, along with these Hugo Boss aviators. This Via Spiga jacket was one of my best Black Friday scores from Lord & Taylor which I scored over 50% off! Sale pieces always come together to make some of the best ensembles!

Anyway, my point is…a lot of fashionistas slack off in the winter…meaning that sometimes it’s a lot easier to throw on a pair of sweats and call it a day. I’m not gunna lie, occasionally I get a bit lazy and feel it’s a lot easier to dress for warmth and forget about style, but I’m trying to start 2014 off right and mix comfort and warmth with style and fashion…I’m pretty sure they can all co-exist, don’t you?!

As the temperatures continue to decline, be sure to dress warm, stay chic and never loose your personal style, even in the most severe of weather conditions!

    A Final Farewell to 2013…

    20131231-091530.jpg
This year has been quite the journey for me. Not to sound corny or young or naive but I’d have to say this year has truly been one I will never forget and has transformed me completely!

In the year 2013, I graduated Hunter College with a Bachelors Degree in Media Communications. I found my career path by starting my own social media consultation business, ‘MRT Media Management’…the fact that in the year 2013 you can get paid for running a company’s Twitter, Facebook or Instagram account is pretty amazing…not gunna lie. I landed a great full time career at FFANY (Fashion Footwear Association Of NY) straight out of college…literally a week after I graduated..not a minute to waste. And last but not least, I launched my lovely blog ‘Missy On Madison‘ and met an amazing guy I’m happy to call my boyfriend, Chezi!

In this year alone I went from being a college student whose schedule consisted of working 3 part time jobs and interning for amazing companies all while taking full time college classes…talk about a crazy 4 years! I’m definitely grateful for my college years don’t get me wrong. College gave me the opportunity to intern for WWD…amazing and for Howard Stern…even more amazing. I’ve had experiences most girls my age can only dream of (I have family and friends calling me modern day Carrie Bradshaw…I can only wish) and I’d have to say I truly am blessed…proving that a little hard work, some motivation and of course a ton of passion, leads to success…I’m living proof! I am truly grateful for all that the year 2013 has brought me and as this year comes to a close, I can only hope that the year 2014 will bring you and myself continued health, love, success and of course…the key ingredient to happiness in life…passion!

See what outfit and dazzling shoes I’m rocking this New Year’s Eve (Hint…it involves a little white with a dash of sparkle!)

    Weekend Blues

    20131213-092441.jpg
One of my favorite things about winter? Layers, layers, layers! Nothing beats rocking a cute skirt and throwing on a sweater with a cute vest over it, maybe a scarf on top or a chambray top underneath…layering is what winter is all about!

I love this look. This printed skirt from Nordstrom just worked perfectly with this cropped LC By Lauren Conrad sweater from Kohls and pair it with fun suede booties (a $8 find at Burlington Coat Factory btw 😉 ) and a cute faux fur vest over it and you have yourself a great outfit for work or play!

Have a Happy Friday & try to stay warm this weekend!

    Representing NYC

    Happy Monday all!

Although I live on Long Island I feel working, interning and going to school in NYC makes me a ‘city gal’, therefore I’m proud to be rocking this ‘New York City’ tank! I love this look from Graffiti Boutique that not only is a great weekend look but also a hot date outfit, depending on how you spice it up!

This bright NYC tank adds a little extra ‘pop’ to the acid wash jeans and leather bomber jacket; both of which are fall into winter staples!
