    All About ‘Faux’

    20131126-074058.jpg
Today’s post is inspired by embracing ‘faux’. Whether it’s ‘faux’ leather or ‘faux’ fur…just because it isn’t real doesn’t mean it always looks cheap and cheesy.

The key to rocking the ‘faux’ look is to mix and match those pieces and dress them up to look like ‘high fashion’. Today’s OOTD does just that.

I’m wearing a faux fur vest from Karen Kane, faux leather leggings from Hue at Bloomingdales and paired them with simple black booties and a white sweater.

It’s a great fall into winter look that looks chic and also keeps you warm and cozy!

    Shop My OOTD:

    Vest: Karen Kane $30
Leggings: Hue at Bloomingdales $25 (this pair sold out, at Nordstrom now for $44)
Sweater: Forever 21 $10 (similar here)

    A Look Back…

    20131128-222932.jpg
As Thanksgiving comes to a close I felt it was only right to share what I’m thankful for this year….yes I try to be grateful and thankful for everything life has given me year round but today it hit me all that this year has given me…making me feel extremely blessed.

As always I’m thankful for my amazing family, friends, and my adorable dog Charlie, but I’m also thankful for a few new amazing things that have happened this year:

Last year at this time I was a senior at Hunter College in NYC…writing final papers, working part time as a hostess at a restaurant on Long Island, all while interning at WWD then freelancing at Footwear News.

Today, I’m a college graduate who landed her dream job straight out of college being a social media guru for FFANY (Fashion Footwear Association of NY).

I launched this blog which is a piece of me as well as an extension of my style, personality and who I am as a person.

    And….

There’s also one new addition I’m thankful for this year…my boyfriend. I’m going to be honest. I thought for the longest time I was going to be like Carrie Bradshaw; alone and single in the Big Apple but happy and content with a job at Vogue and a closet filled with shoes, but my boyfriend has given me hope that maybe, just maybe…good guys still exist…

I hope you all had a lovely Thanksgiving and have given thanks for all the amazing things that life has brought you this year!

    Skinny Thanksgiving Tips

    thanksgiving-art

Thanksgiving always calls for over eating, but this year it doesn’t have to! With America becoming more health conscious than ever, here are a few easy tips to help us not go ‘over board’ this Thanksgiving season!

Some of these helpful hints may seem like common sense, but just by doing them you save  yourself that bloated feeling and the calories.

    1) Portion Control:

Yes, dietitians say this all the time, watch what your eating, take less blah blah blah. Now my version of portion control? People often overload their Thanksgiving plates with everything on the table. First off, take a smaller plate or don’t ‘FILL’ your plate. Take a small amount of food to begin, you’ll be surprised how many people have eyes bigger than their stomachs!

    2) Drink Water:

Holidays are often a time for drinking and being merry, however if you drink a few glasses of water before heading to the party or dinner, your more likely to eat less due to you feeling full on water. Also, if you can, why not pass on the alcohol and have water with dinner? Crazy I know, but with a heavy meal, alcohol usually leads to indigestion and an even more bloated feeling…go for the water!

    3) Decisions, Decisions:

Seeing a table full of food can be overwhelming. You want to try everything plus have your favorite classics, but sometimes you need to make a decision and sacrifice. Are you going to want dessert? Then time to forgo an extra calorie filled side at dinner. It’s all about deciding what you really want and eating a normal amount of each thing.

What are your tricks for staying skinny this Thanksgiving?

    Sweatshirts and Skater Skirts

    20131127-074705.jpg
A new trend this season that I’m falling head over ‘heels’ for is rocking a comfy textured sweatshirt with a skater skirt. It’s a cute and casual look that makes an otherwise ordinary sweatshirt dressy.

I love this sweatshirt from Graffiti Boutique because of the quilted faux leather mixed with the jersey material. In tune with the trend it’s a ‘cropped’ sweater making it ideal for pairing with a high wasted skater skirt like the one I’m wearing!

Nothing makes me happier than wearing a skirt year round. Now by being able to wear fun skirts with sweatshirts you can be warm, cool and casual without having to worry if your look is too ‘springy’.

This is a look I would wear to the office or even on a date, shows a little skin but in a classy way! Pair this look with sneakers, heels or even booties like I did and you can instantly make this outfit work for any occasion!
