With a new year in full swing we are all sharing our New Year’s Resolutions to kick off a successful + prosperous 2020! One of the biggest resolutions we all make every year? Get healthy, get fit, loose weight + feel good! Easy right? Well while these goals tend to fall off after a few weeks into a new year, I am determined to keep mine going well past January + I want you to too!
Whether you are vowing to be zen with some yoga, get outdoors for a hike, cook up some new healthy meals or simply hit the gym, I am rounding up some key essentials to help you get off to a healthy + fit start in the new year!
ICYMI – I have been on the Jenny Craig Rapid Results program for a while now + each week I am one step closer to an even better self! From loosing weight, to gaining to confidence back to feeling like I have amazing amounts of energy, I couldn’t be happier – truly.
When I started on my Jenny Craig journey, I never realized how much the program would change my life. Not only has the program taught me about portion control, healthy eating habits + how to accomplish your goals, but the Rapid Results program has provided me the tools to be a better me! While the program itself makes loosing weight as easy as following the menu, the program has done something else major for me…it’s made me WANT to be healthy + care about my well being long term.
Now I have tried dieting + working out for years but it wasn’t till I joined Jenny Craig that I felt I could actually take control, get the results I want + not be miserable while doing it! Whether it was Keto or no carb or cleansing, those diets made me feel like a cranky gal (and my BF was not having it haha :p), so what I truly love about Jenny Craig is the fool proof plan for success + delicious food.
The meals are truly delicious – from Chocolate Lava Cake to Pizza to French Toast, every meal is better than the next so it doesn’t actually feel like you are dieting, that was something that was super important to me.
While a big perk of Jenny Craig is loosing weight, I have lost over 50 pounds so far (by following the program, just the menu, no workout necessary, on average you’ll have weight loss of 1-2 lbs. /week). My biggest excitement are the lifestyle changes it has caused me to have. I am now feeling more energetic than I ever have before AND it has motivated me to sign up for my first ever 5k run!! Crazy right?!
On Mother’s Day my boyfriend + I are going to participate in our first 5k at Universal Studios Hollywood! ICYMI, I am a HUGE Minions lover + when I saw Universal Studios was having a Minion Run, I knew I had to do it. While I was definitely nervous to sign up because I am far from an athlete, I felt beyond motivated + excited to do it because of the confidence Jenny Craig has given me. I am finally feeling good, looking good + have the energy to run a 5k without fear of passing out along the way! Stay tuned for more to come!

If you said to me a few years ago, let alone a few months ago that I would feel confident enough to take photos + smile with my mouth open showing off my pearly whites, I would tell you that you are crazy…but here I am…smiling + beyond thrilled to share more of my amazing progress thanks to the SureSmile Aligner System.
I have been using the SureSmile Aligner System for a few months now + am really starting to see some amazing progress. I can see my top row of teeth slowly getting straighter and widening my smile to fix the overcrowding I have been experiencing for years.
At first it took me some time to get used to putting them in everyday and only taking them out to eat, but like with any habit after a few weeks of doing it, you get used to it. The great thing about the SureSmile Aligner System is you can actually feel the process working. Each time you put a new tray in, you can feel it working on different sections of teeth to straighten + get in alignment. For me it has taken my teeth a little longer to get adjusted I think since they are so sensitive, but it is so amazing to see the difference they make over time.
I have been going for bi-monthly check ups at Dr Joseph Gray’s office so his team can make sure my teeth are progressing properly with the aligners + make adjustments to the trays if needed which is super helpful to keep my teeth on track to look + feel great!

Almost everyone you know has been touched by cancer in some way, shape or form. Whether it was or is battling it yourself, experiencing the hardship with a loved one or friend or finding ways to reduce your risks of being diagnosed, cancer impacts everyone in some way and that is why I am proud to work with the American Cancer Society to share helpful ways you may be able to reduce your risk of getting cancer..in honor of National Cancer Prevention Month. Of course in no way do these tips + findings guarantee a clean bill of health, but they may help to reduce your risk.
Cancer has touched my life in so many ways. Before I was born my mom was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma. She was told she would lose all her hair, die + never have kids – well luckily she proved that doctor wrong and beat cancer and now she has three wonderful kids to show for it. My grandmother has had breast cancer a couple of times + my boyfriend’s sister passed away from leukemia at just 18 years old. This has become reality for so many people and their families. It truly breaks my heart and if there is ever anything I or my friends or family can do to help reduce the risk of being diagnosed with cancer, I am all for it.
According to the American Cancer Society about 42% of cancer cases and 45% of cancer deaths in the US are linked to modifiable risk factors and in some cases are preventable. This doesn’t apply to everyone but if there are ways I can reduce my risk and the risk of others around me, I definitely want to do what I can to prevent increasing my chances.
Here are some helpful tips on ways you may be able to reduce your risk of cancer:
Maintain a Healthy Weight Through Exercise + Eating Healthy
As I have gotten older I really started paying attention to my health and am continuing on my weight loss journey not just to look better but also feel better and reduce my risk of diseases. It’s been found that obesity or being overweight increases your risk of many cancers.
I personally have been dieting for the past 6 months following a healthy diet plan. Whether it is tweaking your daily calorie intake or making easy swaps between sugary drinks and snacks to sugar free items, every little change adds up to a healthier you!
It is also strongly recommended to get moving throughout the day + work up a sweat. Whether it is parking far in the parking lot, going for walks on your lunch break, taking the stairs, whatever you got to do to get your heart rate pumping really helps decrease your risks.
Avoiding Tobacco and Limiting Alcohol
I personally don’t smoke or drink, especially after hearing what those close to me went through. Limiting alcohol and not smoking can really change your health and life.
Alcohol use has been linked to various types of cancer so limiting your intake of alcohol whether it is how often your drink or the amount you consume can truly help with cancer prevention. (The ACS recommends no more than one drink a day for women and two for men.)
Smoking is a leading cause of certain types of cancer so living a smoke free life can dramatically cut your risks of cancer. Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in both men and women, and is one of the hardest cancers to treat. Not only does smoking increase the risk for lung cancer, it’s also a risk factor for cancers of the mouth, kidney, liver, bladder, pancreas and more.
I have to admit when I was younger I didn’t always take the best care of my skin. I have since learned the importance of protecting your skin from the sun etc to reduce risks of diseases like cancer.
Some ways to protect your skin include: No matter what the weather conditions, you should always use sun protection when you’re outdoors; Sun exposure adds up day after day, and happens every time you’re in the sun – even if it’s a little cloudy or chilly outside. Also, seek the shade, cover up (with sunglasses, clothes and a wide-brim hat, use SPF 30+).
Most skin cancers are a direct result of exposure to ultraviolet (UV) rays from the sun. When it comes to UV rays, you should also avoid man-made sources of it, like tanning beds.
And don’t forget to GET SCREENED
Screening can catch some cancers early, improving the chances for successful treatment. Check out the American Cancer Society’s full screening guidelines!
I encourage everyone to follow these tips because anyway we can reduce our risks of getting cancer, the better we all can be. You can also visit the American Cancer Society’s ”Stay Healthy Information” for a full list of tips!
All I want for Christmas is…straight teeth! In case you missed it, ever since I was a child I struggled not wanting to smile with my mouth open in fear of showing my teeth. As a kid I never got braces or really gave my teeth the attention they deserved and as I grew up getting the perfect smile I always dreamed of seemed like just that…a dream.
That’s why when I was approached by Dentsply Sirona to try out the SureSmile Aligner System I was beyond overjoyed. There are a lot of aligners out there but when the doctor informed me that this SureSmile Aligner is backed by Dentsply Sirona, the world’s largest dental manufacturer I was assured that this would be a positive experience. He spoke about the technology that backs the treatment combined with the manufacturing being here in Texas, that was all I needed to hear. I was curious about Invisalign for a while but SureSmile blows them away.
I went to Dr. Joseph Gray to get fitted for the SureSmile Aligners + to better understand the whole process. For my teeth, the process will take 12 months to have the smile I always dreamed of. The aligners are going to correct my overbite, overcrowding etc so I can’t wait to see the results. What I love about SureSmile is that they actually integrate a 3D Model of your teeth with state of the art technology making the aligners custom fit perfectly to your mouth.
So far I have been wearing the aligners for one week + while it has taken a bit of an adjustment period, after just a few days I can feel my teeth moving + that feeling is super exciting! You are supposed to keep your aligners in 20-22 hours a day, only taking them out to eat so you can see results in no time.
You swap out your aligners every 7-10 days to always keep your teeth moving + SureSmile provides you a handy patient kit to keep your aligners clean + in tip top condition.
I will be sharing my experience here on the blog throughout the journey and in a couple of months I will be able to show you the movement from the aligners all heading towards a straighter smile! To learn more about the SureSmile Aligner System click HERE.
