Happy Monday ya’ll! My weekend was a whirl wind. I was in Palm Springs for Coachella parties and needed some serious R&R today (meaning I spent the day cooped up in bed ugh). The weekend in the desert was hot, hot, hot which resulted in me wearing my hair natural for a few days…the best products for this? Eva NYC of course! Check out my process for rocking natural hair with this affordable line of products available in jumbo size at Costco + regular size at Ulta + Amazon.
The key to rocking your natural hair is using the right products that keep it soft, moisturized + reduce frizz in all climates (like super hot palm springs). I have been using Eva Hair NYC for a while now, my signature go to is their leave in conditioner called their ‘Mane Tamer‘. After I wash my hair with the Eva NYC Clean It Up Shampoo + Eva NYC Soften Up Conditioner I brush my hair with a wet brush (perfect for gently getting out any knots in your hair) and then I run a quarter size amount of Mane Tamer to the ends of my hair to keep my hair soft and shiny as it air drys.
If you are all about great deals like me, you will want to stock up on the Eva NYC products at Costco. I tend to go through hair products quickly (especially these since I absolutely love wearing my hair natural now-a-days).
I am also linking to some more of my favorites from Eva NYC below (like their Dry Shampoo + Hungry Hair Oil…both essential for leaving in overnight + waking up with gorgeous hair)!
Oh J O I! ♥ Fun fact…when I was in college I worked at a hair salon for a couple of years…safe to say I tested out a sh*t ton of haircare brands but one of them that has always been tried + true is Joico! Naturally, I got so excited when they sent me this adorable package featuring their new Color Therapy Luster Lock system which will help nourish my highlights and keep my hair looking flawless all summer long!
It’s a great treatment that can be used as often as you like and it is applied as a pre-shampoo that works to repair and protect damaged or over processed hair no matter how thin or thick! In addition to my newest treatment obsession, I am rounding up some of my other Joico favorites below!
Summer Time Fine♥ With June just days away, I decided it was about time to prep for summer + get a new ‘do’! I have been so swamped with work, moving + the blog that I realized I haven’t actually pampered myself or gotten my hair done in about a year (literally since I moved here last June from NY) :p Cray Cray! Luckily I finally got the chance to get a little ‘refresh’ during Ulta Beauty’s Gorgeous Hair Event! Some new highlights, a fresh cut + a new Missy!
I headed to the Ulta Beauty right near my new apartment in Burbank to get a full day of rest, relaxation + a fresh new look! Nothing screams summer like some fresh new color! I have never been one to over-process my hair, so subtle baby highlights is what my stylist and I discussed…the perfect fit for me! They are low maintenance, don’t need a lot of upkeep + even when they grow out they look like my hair is naturally sun-kissed! Just what summer calls for! I also got some subtle layers to assist with holding curls (I love curling my hair when I have the time, but it is sometimes challenging when it comes to holding a curl…these new layers help with adding some texture to my hair to make long lasting curls possible)♥
The only way to show off a fresh summer do is with a bright new outfit! Let’s break it down — Nothing makes me happier than neon…and a cute pair of heels!
My neon pink dress was actually a clearance find at Forever 21 but I found similar options below:
I layered a white boyfriend blazer over it so it can be styled for work or play!
White ankle strap heels are perfect for any look. Comfortable, match with everything + bam…an easy go to!
As if my neon dress wasn’t enough, I added another P O P of neon with this brand NEW GiGi NY bag from their summer collection♥ I am legit in LOVE with this bag…I mean can ya blame me? 😉
Happy Thursday Loves! I decided to share with you one of my quick and easy tips to have ‘blogger’ ready for hair for outfit shoots, parties and just because…no blog required I suppose 😉
I always feel most confident when I have my ‘Victoria’s Secret’ style hair as I like to call it which in my mind simply means: loose, beautiful curls that look like a million bucks without seeming like a high maintenance hair style. It took me years to perfect the picture perfect hair that I would complain to every hair dresser I wanted, but by darn I’ve got it…only took working at a hair salon for 3 years (as a receptionist) to figure out how to properly curl my hair (guess I’m a slow learner…oops)! I am totally admitting I am far from a beauty guru and I turn to other bloggers for advice all the time, but I think now I can confidently say I found the secret to the ‘sexy hair’ style that is loose curls. So let’s start with what products I use:
I swear by these products…first off I’ve had my Hot Tools Curling Iron for years and for $30 (I bought it on sale of course) it provides amazing results and is great quality…most hair styling tools end up not working after a lot of use, but this baby has yet to fail me. I got the 1 inch iron based on my hair length, I have long hair that is thin…consult the Hot Tools website or your hair stylist about which iron is right for your kind of hair! My dry shampoo is my savior. The Tresemme Fresh Start Dry Shampoo really gives you the bang for your buck. It usually retails at around $5, smells great and soaks up all the oil in your hair while also adding a little volume, texture and a great scent. Last but not least, in order to make my fabulous curls last me all day, I opt for Moroccanoil Finishing Spray. It’s light weight, flexible and smells delicious…I even spray it on days I let my hair dry naturally just for the fabulous scent. Now I curl my hair the way I’ve been taught from my hair stylist friends…lesson one, dirty hair holds curls better than freshly washed hair. This may sound a little funky to you, especially if you are used to washing your hair every day, but I have a secret for you ladies…washing your hair every day actually causes it to produce more oil! Give your hair a day or two to breath (when I curl my hair it lasts me 2-3 days and I simply spruce it up with dry shampoo in the morning and touch up my curls). This varies obviously depending on the person, but for the most part rule of thumb…wash your hair and let it dry naturally the night before, day before or a few hours before you plan on curling it.
My steps below are based upon my hair being washed and naturally dried the day before!
1) Spray Dry Shampoo a few inches away from the roots and if need be section off pieces to make sure you spray where you tend to get the most oily. 2) Take about a 1 inch section of hair and clamp the piece around the barrel of the curling iron starting in the MIDDLE! Very important ladies, if you clamp it too close to the top or the bottom, the hair doesn’t curl or it doesn’t hold. 3) Begin turning the curling iron slowly gripping more of the hair as you rotate the iron up towards your root. 4) Hold the piece for about 10-15 seconds…5) Slowly loosen up your grip on the iron to allow the piece to fall naturally.6) Spray some finish spray or hair spray for extra hold…And voila! Picture perfect hair in a few minutes flat!
Typically it takes me about 15-20 minutes to curl my whole head depending on how tight I want the curls or how finished I want it to look.Hope my tips help you! Share your feedback with me by commenting below! I’m always open to hear more tricks of the trade 🙂
