Fuzzy Creature…

Is it spring yet? Because it sure doesn’t feel like it! The weekend brought more snow to lovely Long Island (although this outfit was clearly shot back before the many snow storms in February) and as it seems things won’t be warming up for a while I decided to share one of my favorite winter time coats with you that can be worn well into the spring…I give you my ‘Fuzzy Creature‘ coat aka my Labradoodle coat or my teddy bear coat (just a few of the different names this coat has inspired)…no matter what you call it, it has become my favorite winter piece that keeps me warm + cozy and stylish at the same time…

I have this thing for wearing coats that have no ~~buttons~~…no ~~zippers~~ and basically are an easy throw over. I swear sometimes I feel like I am a middle aged woman going through menopause, because even in the coldest of temperatures, I am always hot (that’s what commuting to and from Manhattan will do to ya). This coat is great because the beige hue matches with every ensemble and it reminds me of a faux fur vest…best of both worlds…a functional coat / trendy piece all in one. (PS now is a great time to buy coats since it is the end of the season…both of the coats below are up to 50% off!) Now is also a great time to stock up on scarves like this one here.

These Hue Leatherette Leggings have been my obsession all winter because they are sexy and actually keep me warm…so although my dad hates how tight they are (every time I wear them a comment always follows) I will continue to wear them till the weather heats up #SorryDad :p I can’t wait to be able to wear all of my pumps again and since it still is a little slushy on the ground, patent leather pumps are a great option because they won’t get damaged instantly the way a pair of leather or suede pumps will (and I am loving nude pumps because they really go with everything). And I always need a little ‘Pop Of Color’ in every ensemble so this magenta GiGi NY clutch is the perfect touch (plus you can score it on sale now!)

Here Goes Nothing…

Well Here Goes Nothing…After a year and a half of blogging I decided it’s about time for me to get personal with you all…after all blogging is about sharing a little bit about yourself…your hobbies, interests, stories etc. I began blogging as an outlet, an escape, a way for me to share my passion of fashion with the world, but what I’ve noticed over the time I’ve started blogging is most girls only share the good…not the ~~bad~~ and certainly not the ~~ugly~~. Bloggers share what they want the world to see…the picture perfect photos…stunning outfits…gorgeous vacations, but what about everything else that goes on in their life? Is everything as perfect as it appears on instagram? Well maybe it is for some but certainly not for me.

While it took me literally a year to conquer up the courage to open myself up completely I decided that people like people…meaning being genuine, real and yourself is something most people can relate to…hey I love when some bloggers take a chance to reveal a little about themselves (other than their fashion sense) so why am I keeping things under wraps right? Well here it goes…a new weekend series being added to the blog and this one doesn’t include a shopping guide or outfit of the day…it just includes me being me, a weekly diary entry so to speak 😉

Something I have truly been struggling with over the past few years is (drum roll please) dating…Yes I know crazy to think that Prince Charming hasn’t magically shown up on my door step right? haha wrong…Since talking to my friends and just people I meet in my travels I’ve discovered that I shouldn’t be embarrassed or feel weird about discussing my dating life…it’s actually quite comical and has been making my family and close friends laugh for years…let’s just say Carrie Bradshaw has nothing on me and I can only pray that at the end of all this, my Mr.Big comes equipped with a pair of Manolos to seal the deal…till then you guys get to follow along on my journey with me…you are in for a bumpy ride.

Here’s a little background…I’ve been doing online dating for 3.5 years…yes, you heard me…3.5 years…it’s crazy, I literally ~~cringed~~ realizing that which didn’t even come to mind till I was discussing this new dating series with my mom. My parents and friends have encouraged me for years to share the crazy experiences I’ve had with the world but I was so caught up in just wanting to be a ‘fashion blog‘ that I couldn’t bare to think anyone would care about my dating ~~disasters~~. Who knew my trials and tribulations could be pure entertainment to others :p What finally convinced me to get real + in depth was a recent e-mail I received from an Adelphi University student who reached out to me about a piece she was writing about for the school paper discussing Tinder.

She wrote to me asking if she could interview me for the article. I literally opened the e-mail, read it and laughed hysterical…A) Wondering how she knew I was on Tinder, B) How she found me + C) Why she wanted to hear what I had to say. So naturally I responded to her e-mail with those exact questions…I told her I have stories to last a lifetime, but asked how she came across me…now get ready to laugh because her response literally caused a mass text to all of my friends…She told me she came across my profile on LinkedIn when she searched ‘dating + relationship expert’…I almost died…me? A relationship and dating expert? HAHA Now that is a legit Laugh Out Loud moment…I’ve been on Jdate, Jswipe, Tinder, Plenty Of Fish, Ok Cupid and Coffee Meets Bagel…so I wouldn’t necessarily say I am an expert…but maybe a professional online dating app tester…I wish I could get paid to do it the way people get paid to participate in drug trials because trust me it’s almost what it feels like haha. (PS I still have no idea how I came up when she searched those terms because nowhere did I put any of those things in my profile lol…LinkedIn has a funny sense of humor I suppose)

So now you guys have something to look forward to…A weekly look into the fabulous world of online dating as told by a twenty something gal who has a laundry list of qualities she is looking for in a future beau (I am a picky shit #SorryNotSorry…along with a long list of issues she has herself…hey not everyone can be perfect 😉

So let’s start with what I am looking for…you know in case you find someone who fits the bill haha This is probably one of the top questions I’ve gotten on online dating…’What Are You Looking For?‘ which means:

A) Are you looking to hook up?

B) Are you looking for a relationship?

C) Are you open to either possibility? {which usually means you are willing to hook up but don’t want to come across as the ‘hook up’ kind of gal}

Well ladies and gents I am in fact looking for a relationship…sorry boys but I don’t play games, I have no interest in testing the waters and I most certainly don’t want your ~~dick~~ pics, your ~~selfies~~ or your ~~sexting~~ until I am actually to the point of potentially liking you (which is becoming more + more difficult everyday and even then still prefer if you keep the photos to yourself or maybe start your own blog to share them…I don’t care, just don’t send them to me :p).

I think it’s almost comical when guys ask that question because the thing is when you ask guys that question in return they will do 1 of 2 things…

A) Lie and say they are looking for a relationship because they think that’s what you want to hear and will get them one step closer to sealing the deal

B) Be honest and say they just want to hook up for that off chance you will actually jump on it and say ok let’s do it

Now if you are the kind of gal looking for that then the whole online dating scene is perfect for you…if you are not, it is literally like searching for a needle in a haystack. See, the not so fantastic thing about online dating is the fact that guys will say things online that they would never have the guts to say in real life.

Case in point…have you ever went out with your girlfriends and have a guy approach you asking if he could lick your feet? If you have I would assume the guy was highly intoxicated or high. Online Dating allows guys, girls etc to say everything and absolutely anything.

They can make up a whole new persona…they can be a total player online but in life be the shyest type of guy who would never have the confidence to approach a girl in a bar…but online, he has not a worry in the world…if he gets rejected no one will know about it…no one will judge him and no one will care and within 30 seconds he can hit on a new girl and so on and so forth…pretty crazy right? That’s the thing about being online…you can be the person you always wanted to be and no one else will really know who you are (kind of similar to blogging right?). Well For now I will leave you with that because trust me…there is plenty more where that came from + I truly can’t wait to fully share this part of me with you!

When it comes to travel style the key is to bring accessories that can be transitioned into a bunch of looks…a signature pair of sunnies, a chic watch (like this Michael Kors one) and simple clothing…like this black skater skirt that can be worn at the pool, to dinner, to brunch or the beach (did I mention how much I LOVE skater skirts? My Everyday Hair Care Routine…

1. Moroccan Oil Treatment // Eva-NYC ‘Mane Tamer’ :: 2. Wet Brush :: 3. Tresemme Fresh Start Dry Shampoo :: 4. Hot Tools Curling Iron :: 5. Moroccan Oil Hairspray

After Tuesday’s post, I received a few questions on how I get the curls in my hair A) To stay in this harsh winter weather + B) How I get them in my hair period + What products do I use. Well I’m sharing my secret, which isn’t much of a secret at all…I am a low maintenance kind of girl (only when it comes to my hair and makeup of course) so the less work I have to do the better 😉 Here’s my easy product guide to getting loose curls to stay in the dead of winter!

1. Moroccan Oil OR Eva-NYC ‘Mane Tamer’ :: If I plan on blowing out my hair and need to de-frizz I use Moroccan Oil…it smells delicious, makes hair more manageable and is light weight. If I want to let my hair air dry (which is most of the time nowadays…who knew the whole constant straightening in high school would lead me to never wanting to do extra work on my hair ever again lol) I use Eva-NYC’s ‘Mane Tamer’…once again, smells delicious but this is a cream and definitely should be used only if you allow your hair to air dry because it may weigh your hair down or make it slightly oily if you are prone to oily hair.

2. The Wet Brush :: This brush is my savior….like literally the best brush I have every owned. Here is a fun fact about me…before beginning my career in NYC, while I was in college I was a receptionist at a hair salon on Long Island. I tried out tons of hair styling tools, products and processes, and that’s where I discovered a few of my favorite items…including the Wet Brush. I keep one in the shower to brush through my hair after I shampoo + condition and I keep one in my room to brush through my hair once again after using Eva-NYC or Moroccan Oil.

3. Tresemme Fresh Start Dry Shampoo :: I LIVE by this product, I have yet to find a dry shampoo I love as much as this one. I buy it in bulk (I’m talking like 6 cans at a time) and I have one with me no matter where I go. Every morning I spray some in my hair. Typically I was and let my hair air dry the night before I plan on curling it this way my hair has a little oil to make it easier to hold a curl (beauty school 101 minus the beauty school haha). Before I curl my hair I always spray this dry shampoo because it adds a little extra volume and it’s easier the curls to hold a grip.

4. Hot Tools Gold Plated Curling Iron :: After going through hot rollers, regular rollers, round brushes and straightening irons, the best kept secret to getting great curls that hold? The ever so popular Hot Tools Gold Plated Curling Iron…I own 3 (you know for when I travel etc haha or in case one breaks and I have a hair emergency). It’s easy to use, great quality and gets the job done…takes me about 15-20 minutes to curl my whole head of hair.

5. Moroccan Oil Hairspray :: This hairspray is amazing…it smells great, adds shine and is lightweight…finally a hairspray that gives you the hold your curls need without the crunchy texture no one ever wants…#Obsessed #Savior #IHashtagWayTooMuch :p

One of the things I love about blogging and working in the fashion industry is the opportunity to connect and collaborate with new, exciting and emerging designers…now while the designer I am referring to in this post is far from emerging, she is new to many…Aimee Kestenberg. I first met Aimee a couple of years ago while working at my first full time job out of college. She was showing her gorgeous bags at a New York city tradeshow and I loved her style, personality and of course her handbags! So when I discovered Aimee had yet to work with any bloggers I assured her that the world had to see her fabulous styles and I was just the person to help share them (well at least I wanted to be the person to share them haha!) I kept my look simple because I wanted the bag to take focus (this bag is not yet available…it’s a brand new design for Aimee, but stay tuned for when it will be available). Sometimes all black everything really does wonders when you are wearing a statement piece like a camo bag.

With my new job at Kleinfeld I am required to wear ‘All Black Everything‘ three days out of the week, so it is safe to say my closet is now stocked up on black pieces like this Apt. 9 Peasant Top + black Karen Kane Faux Fur Vest. To add a little variation I wore dark wash boot cut jeans. I seriously haven’t worn let alone looked at my boot cut jeans since college…skinny jeans and pointe pants have over taken my closet but for today’s post why not whip them out of retirement and get some good use out of them :p

And now the shoe + bag game. In the spirit of keeping things simple, you can never go wrong with chic black pumps like these ones. Even my sunglasses I kept simple with my black aviators. I wanted this Aimee Kestenberg satchel to take center stage. Since I’ve gotten it, I’ve worn it everyday to work. It is the perfect back for a commuter like myself and with the camo print it adds a little ‘pop‘ of color and print to an otherwise simple bag.
