NYFW is right around the corner and that means…P R E P time! See everyone thinks Fashion Week is a fun time like you see on TV or in magazines, but actually attending is work…lugging around your camera, notes, back up phone charger (I usually carry 3…hey those apps totally runs down your battery), your makeup, back up shoes (because even I can’t run around Manhattan in heels all day)…it is work! So what gets me to go up, up, up even if I feel completely drained from the work ahead? Preparing ahead of time!
Year after year I learn how to master NYFW (I have been going for about 5 years now) so I picked up a few tips along the way.
Plan your outfits ahead of time — I usually lay out 5 – 7 different options — all that can be easily transitioned from day to night)
Prepare what you need to bring — I always pack a few essentials to stay on track (Back Up Phone Charger, My Camera, My Planner — I am old fashioned and still like to hand write things because what if your phone dies? Kinda tragic if all of your plans are in it!)
Stay Hydrated + Fueled — Now this is pretty accurate to what you see on TV, it’s rare you see anyone eating during Fashion Week because shows are back to back and any events that do mention they include food…it’s usually champagne and cupcakes (which for me isn’t a well balanced meal haha I like to eat #SorryNotSorry). I always bring a bottle of water with me and the past two Fashion Weeks smartwater has been my choice because it also has electrolytes that keep me energized to continue going Up, Up, Up throughout my day!
Always Network + Bring Business Cards — I still believe in being old fashioned and bringing business cards to events (although now-a-days most people just follow each other on social media to connect) I still think there is something genuine about exchanging business cards and I always keep mine in my Initial Pouch.
Wear A Statement Wearing Bag — I always love to wear a chic bag that has room for all of my essentials and also makes a statement during Fashion Week. This Red Leather Bag is perfect for NYFW and it came just in time for the September shows<3
Always Bring Perfume or Body Spray — Nothing is worse than running around all day and realizing you need a little ‘refresh’.
*This story is brought to you by smartwater, who believes in making progress every day little by little and sip by sip. That’s how you move up, up, up.
Fashion Week is exhausting, draining, long and fun? Yes, I know every gal dies to go to NYFW (hey I still have butterflies every time I get to go to a show) but let me tell ya…it is rough during fashion week…especially with these freezing temperatures. Nonetheless, I have a little recap of what I’ve went to so far (I’ve been limiting the schedule down a bit due to work and my lack of wanting to go anywhere in this weather). On Friday I popped by the Kendra Scott showroom to check out the new spring and summer collections (I even got a sneak peek at fall). Kendra Scott just gets me…with all of the bright colors and now the ability to layer dainty and simple pieces…I want absolutely everything #ShoppingAddict (yea let’s just say some new Kendra Scott jewels will be making it to the blog in the near future). P.S. Can you guess what is inside? (stay tuned)Friday night I headed to Lincoln Center, the mecca of all things fashion week for the Charlotte Ronson presentation. Naturally I was exhausted, freezing and just wanted to go in, snap some pics and leave but I got a little pep in my step when I got to meet one of my instagram pals in person, Cameron Silver aka the man behind the gray pumps with pink soles I love that I wore in yesterday’s post (if you missed it check it out here). I was waiting on line for the show and then all of a sudden I look up and bam it’s Cameron and recognized ‘Missy’ right away…I felt semi insta famous for a moment (simple things thrill me).And yesterday I went to the Dennis Basso show…filled with plenty of fur and stunning gowns. I wanted each and every piece from the show…although I wouldn’t nearly have enough room to fit it all #oops!Since none of the runway fashions shown in these photos are ‘shoppable’ yet, here are some pieces I want mean while from Dennis Basso, Kendra Scott + Charlotte Ronson.
Happy Thursday Loves! NYFW has been insanely busy…between shows, parties and events my head has been spinning! One of my favorite shows / presentations so far has been ‘Fashion Shenzhen‘.
The runway show held at Lincoln Center and the showcase held at the Hudson Hotel both showcased different Chinese designers: Lizzy, Ellassay and Haiping Xie…while I may not be able to pronounce all those correctly (my apologies) I definitely can tell you that I loved each and every last piece!
First things first…I am in LOVE with Lizzy…the Chinese Designer behind these beyond gorgeous dresses that took everyone at the show’s breath away. Embellishments, tulle, crystals and more were all used throughout the collection…I seriously want to wear one of these beauties to the Met Gala…that is when I am invited one day 😉
This mermaid dress was a stunner…the photo doesn’t even do it justice…I’m obsessed <3
Next up…simple, chic and elegant with Ellassay…
I love the classic silhouettes and the ability to wear them to work! Last but not least…Haiping Xie…filled with tons of color, unique prints, textures and even some interesting frills and thrills in terms of attachments! And here are some shots from the presentation which featured the designers above as well as some additional Chinese designers…the print on the skirt below and bag I am in love with!
How unique is this look…I feel like I would see this ensemble in London back in the day.
A little punk rock moment…
My favorite color…purple! What do you guys think of the collections? Comment below <3
Happy Wednesday Loves! Finally sharing my NYFW diary part 2 from my day two adventures at NYFW! It was a busy day…there was the Storefront X RePop Room Brunch where I stopped by to see my friend Marrin Costello and her fabulous jewels…then I was off to Fashion Shenzen a runway show at Lincoln Center showcasing different Chinese designers and their impeccable designs. After visiting Lincoln Center I was off to the Kendra Scott showroom where I tried on some bling and even got to keep a beauty as well 😉 Lastly, the day wouldn’t be complete without an outfit change for my last event with Simple Skin Care and Caravan Studios at the Carlton Hotel! Wouldn’t be a brunch without starting off with a little green juice…in a shot glass 😉 I love Marrin’s pieces they are gorgeous with the druszy’s…I’m slightly obsessed. I actually connected with Marrin Costello through my blogger gal pal Cara…that’s what I love about blogging…networking and always meeting new people and making new friends, especially friends that are talented jewelry designers 😉 Next up Fashion Shenzen. They had a show at Lincoln Center and a presentation at the Hudson. Personally, while I love a classic runway show…for blogging purposes, presentations are so much nicer to snap pictures at! After some fashion came some more bling at the Kendra Scott showroom. At the Reward Style party, Kendra Scott gifted bloggers this gorgeous druszy ring and invited us to their showroom the next day for some more sparkle…naturally I had to take a photo of my bling. After getting blinged out it was time for an outfit change and I was off to the Caravan and Simply Skin Care party that took place in the penthouse of the Carlton Hotel on….Madison Avenue, Missy made her way back to Madison ;)! NYFW Day Two Night Look:
Happy Tuesday Loves! Here’s my first NYFW Runway show recap! I absolutely loved attending the Katya Leonovich show at Pier 59 during Nolcha Fashion Week part of NYFW which shows off new and emerging designers! I loved this dress…it’s bondage mixed with a classy night out dress that also shows some leg…now this is a date night ensemble. This ivory number is great for a special event like a wedding or a baby shower…I love the fabric and how it is weaved together…so unique! Purple is my favorite color and this is one fierce look! I definitely wouldn’t mind hanging by the pool in this number! I absolutely love this top! It’s flowy and easy just like what I normally wear and it has a high low hemline which is subtle.
This dress is pretty unreal. I love the pop of pink and the neat lines.
Love this touch of pink! My pop of color for spring and summer.
Something I learned about Katya? She definitely doesn’t shy away from showing some skin…there was a little nude action but all for fashion nothing too risky 😉
And here is the lady of the hour…Katya Leonovich 🙂 I enjoy her ability to take risks while also putting out chic fashions every gal could wear.
